MEDICINE HAT, AB – It’s no secret that roster turnover has been a way of life over the past year for the Medicine Hat College Rattlers men’s basketball team.

While the Rattlers have lost a number of high profile players, they’ve also gained a few new faces in the last few weeks that have been big pieces of the team’s offence.

Kieron Burgess has returned to the team after a year’s absence due to a legal incident in November of 2017 involving an airsoft rifle, which he was given an absolute discharge for.

Since returning this semester, Burgess has been Medicine Hat’s best player at both ends of the court averaging 21.2 points per game and 15.8 rebounds per game.

Burgess also has posted a double-double in all six of his games since re-joining the team this winter.

He’s been complimented by former Red Deer College Kings Omon Edobor and DShawn Tyrell, who have been everyday starters for the Rattlers since transferring south.

Edobor has averaged 14.5 points per game and is shooting 31 percent from beyond the arc, while Tyrell has hit 42 percent of his shots and has an average of 12.3 points per game.

It’s been a work in progress for the trio however, as they were part of a second half collapse Saturday night against the Kings, falling 94-91 with many players losing their cool during the game.

Meanwhile it was a better result for the Rattlers women’s team, who took down Red Deer College for the second straight game 75-50 with Kendell Kuntz tying a season-high 25 points.

The win boosted the Rattlers women’s squad to a 13-2 record on the season, while the men’s loss Saturday dropped them back to 9-6 on the year.

CHAT Sports spoke to Tyrell, Edobor, and Rattlers head coach Richard Humphrey about the trio’s impact since coming over and the work that needs to be done to improve stability and consistency on the team.
