AIRDRIE, AB – Medicine Hat’s Vicki Sjolie is provincials bound after her rink took home the ‘A’ bracket championship at the 2019 Senior Women’s Provincial Qualifier on Saturday.

Throwing lead rocks for Shannon Kleibrink’s rink out of Okotoks, Sjolie and her team defeated Calgary’s Diane Foster rink by a 7-3 final to clinch the first provincial berth up for grabs.

Winning all three of their games in Airdrie by a combined 16-9 score, the Kleibrink rink will be playing for an Alberta senior women’s title next month at the Spruce Grove Curling Club.

As for Medicine Hat’s Sandy Bell rink, their quest for provincials came up just short in the ‘C’ bracket on Sunday morning.

Tied 5-5 in the ninth end against Red Deer’s Carol Robertson rink, Bell allowed a steal of one in the final end to lose a 6-5 contest in the ‘C’ semi-final to see her bonspiel come to a close.

Joining Sjolie and Kleibrink’s rink at provincials in February will be Calgary’s Glenys Bakker rink and the winner of Robertson and Foster in Sunday’s ‘C’ final.
