CHARLOTTETOWN, PEI – Former Medicine Hat Tigers captain Mark Rassell was known for his goal scoring ability at the WHL level and that seems to be carrying over to the college ranks.

On Friday night, Rassell recorded his first career U Sports hat-trick for the University of New Brunswick Reds in a 9-4 victory over the University of PEI Panthers.

Rassell scored in all three periods Friday and netted the eventual game-winner, finishing his evening with a four-point effort.

While it’s Rassell’s first hat-trick in a U Sports regular season game, the 21-year-old freshman also scored three goals on December 29 in a Reds game at the 2018 Pete Kelly Cup tournament.

In the midst of his first season at UNB, Rassell has become a big part of the team’s offence with 12 goals and 23 points in 24 games.

A four-year veteran of the Tigers organization, the Calgary native finished his WHL career with 103 goals and 181 points in 274 games in Medicine Hat.
