MEDICINE HAT, AB — Mads Sogaard is not expected to miss a significant amount of time after leaving Wednesday’s Medicine Hat Tigers game.

Sogaard left the game after suffering the injury after teammate Ryan Jevne fell on top of his right leg during a scramble in front of the goal.

During a media availability Thursday afternoon, it was revealed Sogaard suffered a tweaked hip flexor, and is day-to-day as a precaution.

Head coach and general manager Shaun Clouston says Sogaard’s injury is not as serious as previously thought.

“He actually put his skates on and his pads on this morning, and he looks really good,” he said, noting the injury has responded well to treatment Wednesday night and Thursday morning.

Clouston says Sogaard has been on the ice quite regularly in the past month, noting the World Junior Hockey Championship, and returning to the Western Hockey League following the tournament. He says the plan is to let Sogaard rest ahead of the CHL/NHL Prospects game next week in Red Deer.

“He can probably play with it, but we want to get him from 90 to 100 per cent,” said Clouston. “It didn’t bug him very much this morning. He went through all of his movements. It’s still there, but it’s not a serious injury.”

Sogaard adds he is looking forward to taking part in the Prospects Game.

“I’ve been looking forward to it ever since I got the message I was going,” he said. “I just have to rest up and try and get ready for it.”

Goaltender Garin Bjorklund, who joined the team while Sogaard was at the World Juniors, will be called up for the Tigers this week.
