MEDICINE HAT, AB — Already decorated with two gold medals this season, the Monsignor McCoy JV Colts have the chance to add a third to their resume this weekend.

The girls basketball squad, led by MHC Rattlers alumni Kennedy Werre as head coach, are hitting the road to Lethbridge for the Immanuel Christian Tournament on Friday and Saturday.

McCoy’s first tournament victory came in early December, overcoming a 20-point deficit in the opening quarter to claim top spot at the Crescent Heights Vikings home tournament.

The following weekend, the Colts struck gold at the Megan Kondor Memorial Tournament in Vauxhall. They’ve since knocked off Duchess and St. Joseph’s School in Brooks with ease.

Chemistry is a huge reason for the team’s success. Much of the roster has grown up through the ranks playing with one another. They’re friends on and off the court, which greatly influences their play during a game.

They also practice alongside the SV Colts squad from time to time, which also plays a huge factor in the junior team’s development.

CHAT Sports caught up with Werre to discuss some of the finer details of the Colts success this season, and why she decided to take over the team’s sideline.

Plus, Grade 11 guard Brooklyn Schafer explains where their chemistry comes from, and the type of player she tries to be.
