MEDICINE HAT, AB – In just over a month, two of Medicine Hat’s most talented young boxers will be donning the blue and yellow to represent their province on the national stage.

Medicine Hat Boxing Club members Janick Lacroix and Tristan Deveau will be heading to Red Deer next month for the 2019 Canada Games, forming a third of the entire Team Alberta roster.

On Saturday, the pair continued to test themselves before next month’s competition at the Clarion Hotel, competing at the 15th annual Nieman/Page Memorial Boxing Tournament.

Lacroix, who is the reigning national junior gold medallist in the 70 kilogram division, earned a unanimous decision in the final bout of the night against Regina’s Quinn Neald.

As for Deveau, the 18-year-old took down Lloydminster fighter Emile Smith in a split decision in the penultimate fight of the evening.

While Lacroix and Deveau will be the lone local fighters headed to the Canada Winter Games, their coach Kerry Fahlman will also be leading up the Team Alberta squad.

CHAT Sports spoke to Lacroix, Deveau, and Fahlman about their boxing seasons and what opportunities fighting in Red Deer in February will provide.
