Cypress County issues fire restriction

Jan 11, 2019 | 1:49 PM

CYPRESS COUNTY, AB — A fire restriction has been put in place for Cypress County.

The restriction went in place at 2 p.m. on Friday. The county says the weather this winter and high wind conditions have increased the risk of fire in the county.

All current fire permits are cancelled, and no new permits will be issued until further notice.

The county says a person who wilfully sets an open fire, or a fire banned under the restriction, will be charged under the Forest and Prairie Protection Act and Cypress County Bylaws. If the person is the owner or occupant of the land where the fire was set, “the costs may be recovered by having them placed on the county’s tax roll, and recovering them in the same manner as taxes.”
