MEDICINE HAT, AB — A tentative opening date has been set for the opening on Save-On-Foods in Medicine Hat.

The grocery store, which will be located on Strachan Road on the site of the old Wal-Mart, is currently expected to open on May 17, barring any other delays.

“That is the day we have right now,” said Darrell Jones, president of Save-On-Foods, over the phone from Langley, B.C. “Although it is several months from that date, these things can sometimes change because of construction and other issues, but right now, the tentative opening date, I’m pleased to say, is May 17.”

Save-On-Foods was originally expected to open in Fall 2018, but it was delayed last August due to issues with the electrical installation, according to Jones, who adds construction has been going smooth lately.

Jones adds the company is excited to arrive in Medicine Hat.

“That is a great community, and we think our brand of excellent service, as well as e-commerce pickup, all that will be an excellent addition to the marketplace,” he said. “I think they’re going to love the store. It’s state of the art, one of the finest stores in Canada. We’re proud to be opening in Medicine Hat in the month of May.”

Jones says he expects the store to start hiring staff in March. He says the store is hoping to hire between 100 and 150 employees.
