MEDICINE HAT, AB — A local company has been chosen to provide the bus route between Medicine Hat and Lethbridge.

Southland Transportation will take over the rural transit pilot project, meant to fill a void that Greyhound left.

Southland put in a bid of about $580,000 to provide two routes a day running from Medicine Hat to Lethbridge for the next two years.

Negotiations are still in the works, so prices, and where each stop will be have yet to be released.

While Southland will be providing the service, the City of Medicine Hat will be overseeing and analyzing all of the data and reporting it back to the province.

Southland was actually the only company to submit an application for the program, but the city still believes its in good hands.

“I think it’s positive that we have a company that’s reputable as Southlands, professional as Southlands that have applied for this project,”says Simon Amos, manager of community access for the city. “

The city hopes to get the project up and running as soon as possible.
