MEDICINE HAT, AB – Mason Fischer’s hockey journey has been a winding path, but like most things all roads eventually lead home.

After three years of plying his trade across western Canada, Fischer has joined his hometown Medicine Hat Travelodge Cubs for the stretch drive of the Heritage Junior Hockey League season.

Leaving the SEAC Midget AAA Tigers in 2016 to pursue his junior hockey career, Fischer bounced between six different organizations over his 113 career junior games.

After stops in Drumheller, Lloydminster, Kindersley, Bonnyville, Dauphin and Virden, the 20-year-old winger has settled in with the Cubs to great success.

Through his first five games in a Cubs jersey, Fischer has torched his competition for five goals and 10 points and already sits tied for ninth in team scoring.

Following a 5-2 loss at the hands of the Okotoks Bisons on Saturday, CHAT Sports caught up with Fischer and Cubs head coach J.D. Gaetan about the impact his return to Medicine Hat has had on the team.
