DRUMHELLER, AB – The Brooks Bandits (36-3) converted three times on the power play, and held Drumheller to just 1 shot in the third period, defeating the Dragons 4-1 on the road on Friday night.

The win moved the Bandits’ record against Drumheller this season to 3-1, extending their win streak to 12 games for the second time this season.

Drumheller outshot Brooks 11-7 in the first period but the game remained scoreless, despite three Drumheller power plays. Brooks’ power play finished the game a perfect 5 for 5.

Brooks broke through on its own power play 6:38 into the second period when Andrew Lucas (Alexandria, VA) fed a puck in front from the right corner that captain Nathan Plessis (Salmon Arm, BC) tipped in from the top of the crease.

At the 17:13 mark, a Lucas point shot bounced off the glove of Drumheller goalie Hunter Virostek and was tapped in by William Lemay (Marieville, QC) to make it 2-0 Brooks and extend Lemay’s point streak to 14 games.

At the 18:52 mark, Brett Edwards one timed a puck home from the slot to cut the deficit in half. It would be the only blemish on the night for Pierce Charleson (Aurora, ON), who stopped 21 of 22 Drumheller shots for the win.

In the third, as a four-on-four sequence gave way to a Brooks power play, Randy Hernandez (Miami, FL) sped in from the neutral zone on a breakaway and backhanded the puck past Virostek to make it 3-1. After a major penalty to Drumheller’s Dawson Bruneski for a hit to the head, Brandon Scanlin (Hamilton, ON) blasted home a point shot goal at 16:12 to notch the 4-1 final score.

The two teams will meet for the rematch on Saturday night at the Centennial Regional Arena in Brooks at 7 PM; tickets are available online at tickets.brooksbandits.ca.
