Woman killed following crash near Oyen

OYEN, AB — A woman from Banff has died following a four vehicle crash near Oyen on Thursday.

The collision occurred at approximately 11:25 a.m. on Highway 9 near Range Road 60. According to a release from the RCMP, initial investigation revealed a truck travelling east crossed the centre line of Highway 9 into the path of a westbound car.

Two other cars heading west then collided, with one of the cars heading into the ditch.

The driver of the car heading west, who RCMP say is 28 years old, died at the scene. The name of the deceased will not be released.

The male and female passengers of the eastbound truck were taken to hospital by EMS with serious injuries.

Two women and one man from the other two cars were taken to hospital with minor injuries, but later released.

Officers from Oyen and Hanna responded to the collision.

RCMP say conditions at the time of the collision were icy and foggy. A collision analyst attended the scene, and the crash remains under investigation.
