MEDICINE HAT, AB — The city has been aiming to sell empty pieces of land within Medicine Hat for some time, and the latest sale will result in a five-storey condo building.

Meadowlands Development bought the long-time empty lot on 954 Second Street Southeast.

The purchase for the land located between Parkside Manor and Lions Park was approved on Monday for $574,000.

Developers plan on building the five storey structure with businesses on the bottom, and upscale condos on the upper four floors.

It will feature one, two and three bedroom condos, which will be up for sale once the project is completed.

“There’s pretty outstanding views throughout the river valley and Lions Park,” says Curtis Presber, chief financial officer for Meadowlands Development. “There’s not many other projects like this in the city that will be able to capture the views that this piece will have.”

The land has been empty for some time, due to a prior owner.

“I know that it had been brought into the market a number of years ago,” says Presber. “But never did have anything come to fruition on it.”

They hope to begin construction in a year and half, after rezoning, conditions and designs are approved.

“We’re excited to have the opportunity to bring it to the residents and see the appetite for it,” says Presber.
