MEDICINE HAT, AB — It’s always bitter-sweet for Grade 12 athletes dressing in their final games of their high school careers.

That was no different for Cait MacMillan, a left-side senior at Medicine Hat High School, who’s hung up her playing days for the Kwahommies.

Usually, her final game would end her career of competing at Hat High, but a new club program is giving her the chance to continue competing at her school.

MacMillan is one of dozens of new athletes making up the Medicine Hat Volleyball Club, which is geared towards girls aged 14-18.

Steven Russell, a former coach for the Medicine Hat College Rattlers, is spear-heading the program, and says there are five teams making up the U15, U16, U17, and U18 age categories.

MacMillan and Russell recently spoke with CHAT Sports to discuss the advantages of having another local club team, and how their early-season chemistry is coming along.
