HIGH RIVER, AB — After falling 6-5 in overtime hosting the High River Flyers last weekend, the Medicine Hat Travelodge Cubs earned sweet revenge over their division rivals with a 7-5 victory on the road Friday night.

Mason Fischer, making his debut in a Cubs uniform after committing to the team earlier in the day, left an early impact.

The Medicine Hat product put the Cubs on the board early, after veteran forward Mackenzie Fritzler fired Fischer a pass just 2:32 into the opening frame, putting the road team up 1-0.

Fritzler picked up another assist moments later, as Cooper Hilworth put the Cubs up 2-0.

Medicine Hat continued their dominance, as Chandler Aleman notched his 16th goal of the season, sliding his team ahead 3-0.

Michael McTighe gave the hometown Flyers fans something to cheer for with just 1:21 remaining in the first period cutting the Cubs lead to 3-1.

The Flyers continued their rally early in the second frame. Brennan McPherson notched a power-play marker, putting his team within striking distance at 3-2.

Medicine Hat halted the Flyers drive with goals by Mackenzie Fritzler and Aleman’s second of the game. Fritzler added another after Michael McTighe lit the lamp for High River. Medicine Hat took a 7-5 lead into the second intermission, and held the Flyers off the scoreboard in the third period.

Medicine Hat outshot the Flyers 51-23.

Fritzler notched four points (two goals, two assists), while the newly added Fischer picked up three points (one goal, two assists) in his first game as a Cub.

With the victory, Medicine Hat now has a record of 10-11-3 (23 points) and sits tied for 5th in the HJHL’s South Division with High River with four games in hand.

The Cubs will look for their second win in a row Saturday night when they host the Three Hills Thrashers (1-23-1). Puck drop is scheduled for 8:45 p.m. at the Kinplex.
