BROOKS, AB — The CEO of a company planning to build a cannabis production facility in the city of Brooks says they’re still gunning to break ground on the project in Spring 2019.

In July, Natural Health Alliance announced their plans for the facility in Brooks.

“We’re at the stage right now where we’re going to be commissioning some engineering on the property to situate our phase one build out of approximately 31,000 square feet,” said Ken Faulkner, President and CEO of Natural Health, over the phone from Kelowna.

Faulkner says the entire project will be built in four phases, and completed over several years. Once the building is finished, the total size will be approximately 830,000 square feet.

Faulkner released details regarding the first phase of the project.

“It will be about a 70-30 split, with 70 being the grow side of it, and 30 per cent for administration and lab,” he said.

The facility would primarily be focused on research and the medical cannabis market, with less of an emphasis on recreational cannabis, although Faulkner says

Faulkner says communication with the City of Brooks has been positive throughout the development.

“The whole community in general, led by the mayor and council, have been nothing but encouraging, and we were overwhelmed with the support,” he said.

Faulkner says once they break ground, they estimate it will be seven months before the first phase of construction is finished. He adds they’ve applied for several licences from Health Canada to operate the facility, and they’re hoping to have the first phase of the project operating by the end of 2019.
