MEDICINE HAT, AB — A Grade 3 class at Herald School is trying to raise funds for one of their classmates that’s facing a tough battle.

Last week, CHAT News aired the story of eight-year-old Max Seidel, after a GoFundMe page started circulating about his situation.

Max has been diagnosed with a rare genetic condition called atypical Hemolytic Uremis syndrome, which affects less than 100 people across Canada.

His Grade 3 class decided they needed to step in and help out, so they’ve been braving the cold to raise a little for him and his family.

The class is out selling hot chocolate between 7 a.m. and 10 a.m. on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday outside of the school.

The Medicine Hat Cubs hockey team has also been helping out, and as Kelly Kuester, the principal of Harold School explains, the community has show a huge amount of support.

“So thankful, like when people just drive by and give you $100s for the cause,” says Kuester .“It touches your heart for sure, there’s no other way to say that.”

The fundraiser collected roughly $1,000 on Monday, and more than $1,700 on Tuesday.
