MEDICINE HAT, AB — The United Conservative Party wants to hear from Albertans and have been looking to start conversations through texts.

It’s part of the party’s engagement campaign, which began back in September.

Since then, text messages have been sent out, asking the recipient ‘Do you agree that we need a change in government in Alberta?’

The message asks for a yes or no reply and a conversation may start, depending on the answer.

Phone numbers are collected through different sources, including a site which lists publicly available phone numbers.

Director of communications for the party, Matt Solberg, said the United Conservative Party wants to hear from Albertans and this is another way to do that, ahead of the election.

“We take cues from people and their responses and if it’s appropriate to disengage, then we will,” he said, over the phone from Edmonton. “But often, you know, we want to have an actual conversation with people on these issues and I think that’s what you’ll find if you are engaging with us.”
