MEDICINE HAT, AB – While the Medicine Hat Tigers may have come out on the losing side on Saturday against the Lethbridge Hurricanes, they made their highlight of the night count.

Captain James Hamblin scored the Tigers first goal of the evening with a little over five minutes left in the first period, sending thousands of teddy bears onto the ice as part of the team’s annual Teddy Bear Toss Game.

Following the goal, Hamblin celebrated with his teammates in the sea of teddy bears, including goalie Mads Sogaard who set the Tigers captain up with a pass up the boards.

The teddy bears will be donated to various groups around the city including the Salvation Army, Medicine Hat & District Health Foundation, and the Medicine Hat Women’s Shelter Society.

Over 3,000 teddy bears and stuffed animals hit the Canalta Centre ice last year, while the Tigers are expected to release this year’s numbers in the coming days.

CHAT Sports caught up with Hamblin and Sogaard to discuss scoring the famed annual goal, and the support they’ve saw from Tigers fans on Saturday.
