MEDICINE HAT, AB — A Medicine Hat Tigers forward requesting a trade has found his way onto a British Columbia Junior ‘A’ roster.

Henrik Rybinski is currently listed as a member of the Coquitlam Express in the British Columbia Hockey League. He played his first game with the team on November 23, according to the league’s website.

Shaun Clouston, the head coach and general manager of the Medicine Hat Tigers, says Rybinski will continue to play with the Express while they work to find him a new home in the WHL.

“We don’t want guys not playing forever,” he said. “If there is something that would make sense for us, we’d move him. Right now, there isn’t, so we didn’t want to hold him up. This is an opportunity for him to keep playing, and other teams to look at him, and for him to continue his career.”

The team announced on November 1 that Rybinski, 17, had requested a trade from the Tigers, with a news release saying Rybinski, his family and his agent were seeking increased ice time and a top-two centre role on the team.

The WHL can only move a 17-year-old player if the player requests a trade.
