MEDICINE HAT, AB — HALO Air Rescue has gone the distance since launching the new BK117 helicopter in September.

The new machinery travels 40 kilometres faster and can fly at night.

It’s also bigger, which means there’s more room for EMS to work on board.

The new chopper has already proven it can go the distance.

Tricia Nardari, secretary and executive board member, said it has already helped in bringing patients straight to Calgary.

“There’s a pretty significant sense of satisfaction from the board perspective, knowing that what we’ve done to achieve this goal of bringing a twin engine helicopter really has served the community well,” she said.

One of their most recent missions was out to Etzikom. The patient needed to be flown to Calgary and the helicopter was able to make the flight in 75 minutes.
