Medicine Hat Firefighters calendar raises money for charities

Nov 17, 2018 | 10:29 AM

Medicine Hat, AB- Although it may seem a little cliche, it’s all for a good cause.

The Medicine Hat Firefighters have been selling their calendar for a little over a month now and will be at Superstore from noon-4 p.m today (Nov. 17).

With details of the initiative, here’s Trustee with the Medicine Hat Firefighters Association Curtis Noble.

“Everything’s going really well,” explained Noble. “We’re raising money for the Alberta Children’s Hospital and the Medicine Hat Firefighters Burn Society, which contributes to numerous local charities throughout the year.”

And the calendar is exactly what you would expect.

“It’s a bunch of firefighters with their shirts off,” Noble chuckled. “We totally recognize how silly it is in nature, but the guys put in a lot of work for it just because it’s a great cause.”

Noble added that Hatters are always generous when it comes to these sorts of events.

“It’s fantastic. Get ’em while you can as they generally sell-out pretty quick. Last year’s calendar raised close to $40,000 and we sold out, we actually had to print more. This year, we’re on target to fund-raise close to the same.”

The cost of the calendar is only $20 and you can rest assured knowing that all of these funds will directly benefit some sort of charity.

Now if you can’t make it to Superstore today, Noble said you will have other opportunities to purchase a calendar for yourself.

“In addition to Superstore, we also sell our calendars at Costco a fair bit. I think we’ll be going to Safeway on the hill in the near future as well. Be sure to follow our Facebook, Instagram and Twitter for the next location announcement.”

Residents can also pick up a calendar at any of the three fire-stations around town.

To finish the conversation, Noble had this to say:

“As mentioned, we did sell-out last year. I have no idea how many we have left, but we always say they’re in short supply. It would be fair to say get them soon before they’re all gone!”
