Cypress County looks at adding lights to highway intersection

DUNMORE, AB — Officials with Cypress County are continuing talks with the province around installing traffic lights at the intersection of Eagle Butte Road and the Trans-Canada Highway.

Plans have been in motion for the last year and a half and the county already has a verbal agreement with Alberta Transportation.

Now, they’re working to get the right papers in order so work can begin sooner, rather than later.

Councillors have a meeting in Edmonton next week and are hopeful it’ll help keep the project moving in the right direction.

County Reeve Dan Hamilton said Dunmore is growing and it’s a busy intersection.

He adds the county wants to help protect everyone who drives that stretch.

“We’re trying to be proactive to development that’s going on in Dunmore,” he said. “We have quite a few houses going in. We have a school just down the road from there. We have a lot of young drivers that use that intersection twice a day.”

There’s no word yet on how quickly construction could begin.
