Redcliff woman among five charged following RCMP search near Vulcan

VULCAN, AB — Five suspects, including a woman from Redcliff, are facing multiple charges in connection with a string of thefts.

Vulcan RCMP executed a search warrant on a rural property at Township Road 174 and Highway 23 on Tuesday afternoon, arresting three men and two women. Officers from the Nanton detachment and the Crime Reduction Unit assisted with the arrests.

According to a news release from RCMP, officers seized items stolen from Vulcan, Medicine Hat, Brooks, Redcliff, Calgary and Strathmore. Police also discovered a large amount of copper wire allegedly stolen from numerous oil wells.

Officers recovered five firearms, three bows, two crossbows, three ATVs, one ATV trailer, two cans of bear spray and 934 grams of cannabis. A cannabis grow operation was also found on the property.

Shaun Laraine Matchett of Redcliff, 22, has been charged with four counts of possession of stolen property over $5,000, seven counts of possession of stolen property under $5,000 (x7), two counts of possession of a prohibited weapon and possession of break and enter tools.

Brian Christopher Aske of no fixed address, 40, has been charged with four counts of possession of stolen property over $5,000 (x4), seven counts of possession of stolen property under $5,000, four counts of possession of a prohibited weapon, and one count of possession of ammunition.

Ross Brian James of no fixed address, 37, has been charged with four counts of possession of stolen property over $5,000, seven counts of possession of stolen property under $5,000 and possession of break and enter tools.

Danny Robert Longbotham, 47, and Shannon Lynn Murray, 37, both of Vulcan, were each charged with four counts of possession of stolen property over $5,000, seven counts of possession of stolen property under $5,000 and possession of break and enter tools.

Aske, Matchett, James, and Longbotham were remanded into custody after a judicial hearing. They are scheduled to appear in Lethbridge Provincial Court today. Murrary was released on recognizance, and is also scheduled to appear in Lethbridge Provincial Court today.
