OYEN, AB – A former Town of Oyen employee has pleaded guilty to a violation of the Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act.

Darcy Dobrosky pleaded guilty last month to one count of failing to monitor potable water in a waterworks system at random locations in the town’s water distribution system.

According to an agreed statement of facts, provided by the provincial government, Dobrosky worked as the public works foreman for the town at the time, and was responsible for the operation of the town’s drinking water system.

Random samples of water needed to be collected from different points in the system for testing in order to monitor the safety of the water. According to documents, Dobrosky admitted to taking samples from a single location, and directed other employees to only collect water samples from the same location.

Dobrosky was fined $1,000, and is prohibited from operation or having control of water or wastewater collection, treatment or the distribution system in the province for three years. Addition, he is required to follow the conditions under a probation order for two years. He is also not permitted to be employed by or hold a controlling interest in any corporation or organization that owns a water or wastewater collection, treatment or distribution system in the province during that time.
