Scott shuts the door as Tigers drop fourth straight to Raiders

PRINCE ALBERT, SK – Ian Scott was a man possessed for the Prince Albert Raiders on Wednesday night, stymieing the Medicine Hat Tigers for three straight periods.

Medicine Hat threw everything they could at the Toronto Maple Leafs prospect, but were blanked by a 2-0 final score against the top-ranked Raiders.

Both teams had their offences firing in the first period with shots 14-12 for Prince Albert, but Scott and Tigers goalie Mads Sogaard came up big to keep it scoreless into the second frame.

Nearing the midway mark of the second, WHL goal-scoring leader Brett Leason showed off his offensive flare even while down a man.

Leason picked up the puck shorthanded and beat Sogaard for his 18th of the year nine minutes into the period to put the Raiders ahead by a goal.

Despite outshooting Prince Albert 12-6 in the second period alone, the Tigers went into the second intermission trailing by one.

A backbreaker came against Medicine Hat with 8:44 left in regulation, as Noah Gregor dug out a loose puck in the corner and fired a bad angle shot past Sogaard to double Prince Albert’s lead.

Medicine Hat piled on 19 more shots on Scott, but the veteran never blinked to earn the 43-save shutout and a 2-0 win over the Tigers.

One night after going just 1-for-9 on the power play versus Saskatoon, the Tigers once again struggled to convert on the man advantage as they were unable to capitalize Wednesday on four chances.

Aside from giving up the two Raiders goals, Sogaard had a solid evening of work with 31 saves to his name, but saw his record slip to 4-2 on the year.

Entering a bit of a slide, the Tigers have lost their last four games and have just one point since a 5-4 victory over the Calgary Hitmen on November 5.

Luckily for Medicine Hat, they were the only Central Division team in action on Wednesday and remain locked in third place in the division with a 9-10-1-2 record.

Posting an 0-2 record to begin their eastern road swing, the Tigers are back in action on Friday evening to face Brandon for the first time since falling in the first round of WHL playoffs to the Wheat Kings last spring.

The Tabbies and Wheaties will take to the ice at Westoba Place on Friday night at 6:30 pm.
