EDMONTON, AB – The Medicine Hat Can Pak Environmental Midget AA Hounds are two wins away from hoisting the championship trophy at the 2018 Bill Kurucz Memorial Tournament.

Medicine Hat defeated the Airdrie AA Lightning on Sunday night 5-1, booking their spot in the tournament semi-finals.

It took less than five minutes for the Hounds to open the scoring, with Ryley Manz finishing off a power play goal to give Medicine Hat the early advantage.

Brandon Kasdorf added onto the Hounds lead midway through the second period, before Zachary Dovichak potted Medicine Hat’s third goal of the night with 2:22 left in the period.

Skating with the man advantage to begin the third frame, Kasdorf netted his second goal of the evening on the power play to make it a four goal game for the Hounds less than a minute in.

Airdrie broke Teron Funk’s shutout attempt with 4:27 left in regulation to cut the deficit to 4-1, but Levi Schlosser scored a late insurance goal to clinch the victory for the boys in black and orange.

Funk allowed just one goal on 22 shots to pick up the win, while Airdrie goalie Chance Griffith allowed five goals on 26 shots.

Finishing the round robin with a 2-1 record, the Hounds have now advanced to battle the host CAC Butchers & Packers Canadians on Monday morning.

The winner will face either the Calgary AA Canucks and or the Strathcona ACT Warriors in the tournament final later in the day.
