MEDICINE HAT, AB — The Strathcona Centre is back open after being closed since mid-july.

It went through multiple renovations. aimed at making it more accessible for seniors.

The work was part of the Senior Centre Redevelopment Project which included work on the Veiner centre as well.

With a budget of $11.6 million dollars, the Strathcona centre has new accessible washrooms.

In addition, the cities corporate asset management team painted the space, installed new carpeting, a new ceiling and lights.

The Senior Citizens advisory committee foundation also helped, donating 5 new treadmills and some other equipment.

The chair of the committee says the space is important to have, especially for seniors.

“Seniors like anyone else really appreciate being able to gather together and do things with their friends.” says Laverne Noble, chairment of the senior citizen advisory committee.

The Strathcona Centre is hosting a floor curling event at the provincial senior games in July of 2019.
