CALGARY, AB — The president and CEO of the Alberta Energy Regulator has announced his resignation.

The AER revealed Friday afternoon that Jim Ellis, who has been with the organization since 2013, will leave on January 31, 2019.

“Jim’s leadership and strategic vision has been vital to the launch and growth of the Alberta Energy Regulator,” said AER Chair Sheila O’Brien in a statement. “He built a new organization from the ground up, ensuring that the needs of all stakeholders were embedded in the decision making framework of the AER.”

The release states during his term as CEO, Ellis led a team that focused on creating plans that delivered more than $2 billion in industry savings, while also protecting the environment and public safety.

The release adds Ellis’ decision has been in the planning stages for several months, and the board will begin looking for a CEO immediately.
