Tigers Longo back from injury

MEDICINE HAT, AB — Trevor Longo is back to full health.

The Medicine Hat Tigers defenceman will return to the line-up for the first time since Oct. 12 when the Tigers head to Calgary on Friday.

“I’m feeling a lot better,” said the 18-year-old, noting he’s taking part in full-contact practices again. “That extra week after last weekend was really good.”

Longo has been listed day-to-day with concussion-like symptoms for the better part of a week now. The Tigers coaching staff noted he was questionable for last weekend’s pair of games, but ultimately elected to give him a bit more time to heal fully.

Life without Longo hasn’t exactly been a breeze for the Tabbies. Fellow blue-liner Joel Craven went down with his own upper-body-injury a few games later, creating a shorthanded blue-line.

The Tigers were forced to dress just five defenceman for their game against Lethbridge on Oct. 20th. They called up 16-year-old Damon Agyeman a few days later to serve as the sixth defenceman for three games. Agyeman has since been sent back to the midget AAA ranks in Airdrie.

But despite Longo and Craven’s absence, the Tigers have still mustered four wins in their last six games.

“I thought we’ve played really well,” added Longo. “We’re playing fast, and playing the way we like to play. I think we’ve been getting the wins we would like to get. Things are looking pretty good, and I think we have to keep it going.”

Game time Friday night from the Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary is 7:00 p.m. After that, the Tabbies welcome the Hitmen to the Canalta Centre Sunday at 6:00 p.m.
