Mohawks seek third straight South Zone title

MEDICINE HAT, AB — Year after year, Quinn Skelton never seizes to field a championship-worthy football club.

This season is no exception.

The long-time head coach for the Hat High Mohawks SV crew will seek a third straight ASAA South Zone Championship Friday night, hosting the Catholic Central Cougars out of Lethbridge at the Methanex Bowl. It’s a rematch of last year’s South Zone final, which the Mohawks took decisively 15-4.

Hat High is coming off a tightly-knit 18-14 victory over the Brooks Buffalos in the Rangeland Football Conference final last Friday — their fifth RFC title in a row.

Catholic Central has a tough test ahead, taking on a Mohawks team who hasn’t lost since last year’s provincial semi-final. Hat High has since rattled off nine straight victories.

The green and white are also ranked third among all Tier II schools in Alberta.

The opening kick for Friday’s zone championship, which also comes with a ticket to provincials, is at 7:00 p.m.
