MEDICINE HAT, AB – It’s a day the Medicine Hat Can Pak Environmental Midget AA Hounds have circled on the calendar every year, trading in their usual black and orange for pink.

The Hounds banded together for their annual ‘Pink in the Rink’ game on Saturday night, raising money for the Margery E. Yuill Cancer Centre in their own city.

Over $2,500 was raised on Saturday through jersey auctions, donations and food sales, which is up about $700 compared to the same fundraiser from last year.

Hounds goaltender Nate Hoffman has participated in two fundraising games over his career with the Midget AA squad and said they jump at any chance to get involved with the community.

“It’s just awesome to be a part of the community, and them know they have a team in their community that they can come and watch and support,” said Hoffman.

Head coach Randy Wong added the players were involved with the fundraiser even more this year, which is something he takes pride in as a mentor to the players.

“The guys made the popcorn this year, that’s the first time in four years that’s happened,” said Wong. “So, certainly they got more involved and I think were anxious to be more involved. So, really applaud those guys for stepping up and doing a good job with that.”

The Medicine Hat AA Hounds weren’t the only team to get involved however, as the visiting Lethbridge Hounds sported pink laces and stick tape while also donating a stick for the silent auction.

Hoffman said it was a classy move from a team they love to battle with on the ice.

“It was great to see them,” he said. “It’s sportsmanship and it’s awesome to watch them come out and just compete, but also be a part of something bigger than them.”

Medicine Hat was also able to stretch their undefeated streak to four games, earning two points on ‘Pink in the Rink’ night with a 4-2 victory over Lethbridge.

Ryley Manz scored a pair of goals in the win, while Hoffman stopped 24 of the 26 shots that came his way to earn the two points.

With five wins over their first eight games of the season, the Hounds head to Lethbridge on Saturday for the rematch at 2:00 pm.
