Riverview Golf Club could dissolve following Thursday meeting

REDCLIFF, AB — Riverview Golf Club members are expected to vote to dissolve the club during a meeting Thursday night.

Richard Lant, a member of the cub, confirmed the course will be hosting a meeting at the club house at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, where they will share the results of recent discussions with town council about the future of the club. He adds members will then vote on dissolving the club.

Lant told CHAT News Today that losing the club would be “disastrous for the town.”

The meeting comes two weeks following an emergency meeting the club held, where they revealed they had amassed $405,000 in short-term debt.

They had asked members of the club and town residents to contribute $500 on top of their annual member fees.

As of Wednesday afternoon, Lant says they have raised $67,900 from the cash drive.

He would not disclose why a move to dissolve the club would be made two weeks following a cash drive, but said all information would be revealed at the meeting.

Club members have also been meeting with Redcliff town council about a solution for the club, with the most recent meeting occurring in-camera on October 22.

Lant says Redcliff Mayor Dwight Kilpatrick and town councillors have been invited to attend the meeting.
