No danger from strong smell of natural gas in S.E. Hill and Downtown

MEDICINE HAT, AB. — The city says there’s no danger from a smell of natural gas that people started calling about last night.

The odour is most noticeable on the south east hill and into the downtown area.

Cory Earle, the manager of operations with the gas distribution department with the City of Medicine Hat, says the smell is from the odourant that is added to natural gas to make it detectable.

Crews are working to find the source, but it’s believed to be coming from a natural gas well in Central Park that was recently turned on.

The smell will dissipate over a period of time.
