MEDICINE HAT, AB — A Medicine Hat team roper will be hoping to become the best in Canada later this month.

Trent Tunke has qualified for the Canadian Finals Rodeo, which runs October 30-November 4 in Red Deer. He is the only rodeo athlete from Medicine Hat to qualify this year.

The top 12 competitors in each event qualify for the CFR. Tunke finished in 12th place among heelers during the 2018 season.

Tunke will be roping with Jesse Popescul at the CFR, who finished eighth among headers this season.

In addition to Tunke, several other competitors for southeastern Alberta have qualified for the CFR this year.

Jared Parsonage of Maple Creek has qualified for bull riding, finishing first overall in the season.

Devin Wigemyr of Brooks will also be competing in team roping, finishing in second place among heelers.
