MEDICINE HAT, AB — Drivers looking to enter or leave downtown will have to find an alternate route for the next two weeks.

The city posted on Thursday that the Finlay Bridge will be closed to vehicle traffic starting on Friday. The closure is expected to last two weeks, though it is dependent on weather.

A news release from the city says the closure is to allow road construction and paving in the area of Second Avenue Northeast and Second Street Northeast.

Crews have been completing upgrades to sections of water, sanitary sewer and storm infrastructure in Riverside since May. The work for the next two weeks will complete the most recent phase of construction.

Detours will be in place to direct traffic to the Maple Avenue Bridge or the Trans-Canada Highway if drivers need to cross the South Saskatchewan River.
