Don’t let a private business’s poor management be an excuse to steal your hard-earned money. A local golf course is over $400k in debt and does not deserve a penny of tax payers’ money. $400k is years of mismanagement, not just some sudden thing. They are a private business and should have realized the mistake way before it even got close to $400k. They want to blame declining memberships on the economy when this is not true. It’s because they have poor management. Golfing is commodity. The market should determine if it should survive, not the tax payers or home owners; many of which don’t even golf. Taking money you didn’t earn is theft. And before you start furiously typing on your keyboard, “but taxes are necessary!” yes, I agree, but taxing for a service like roads, and police and parks, and etc. are a service. Taxing to help save a private business is not a service.

A new condominium is opening up and allowing renters to rent and it claims to be “pet friendly”. Upon further inspection, it is not pet friendly if you own a dog that is a bully breed, German Shepherd or Chow Chow because of “city bylaw”. NOWHERE in Medicine Hat is BSL enforced. Except perhaps a certain trailer park. But it is not a municipal bylaw. But this rule is completely unfair and ridiculous. It is hard to find a place to rent in this city that is pet friendly, let alone without a weight restriction on pets. Pets deserve to stay with their family and not be targeted because of their appearance or breed. A lot of people look at a dog and judge it based on its appearance rather than its temperament. It’s like calling all humans murderers because one human killed. This building needs to rethink its restrictions.
