OLDS, AB – A perfect start to the 2018-19 ACAC volleyball season for the Medicine Hat College Rattlers teams, each sweeping their weekend series with victories on Saturday afternoon.

After both the Rattlers men’s and women’s teams were victorious over Olds College on Friday night, Medicine Hat saddled up for rematches against the Broncos on Saturday.

The Rattlers men’s team needed a few extra points to finish off the Broncos in the third set, but they would roll to a straight-sets win over Olds College 25-18, 25-22, 26-24.

Making his debut in black and yellow, rookie KeAndre Evans led the team with seven kills and six service aces to pick up the win.

Edvard Nordlund and Alfred Dalevik also had six kills on the afternoon, while Austyn Ducharme led the way defensively with 10 digs.

Medicine Hat was also extremely disciplined over the three sets with zero unforced errors, while Olds College in comparison had 11.

Finishing their weekend with a 2-0 record, the Rattlers are one of three undefeated teams in the South Division and are tied for second place with Lethbridge College at four points.

It was a dominant performance in the women’s matchup as well, as the Rattlers spread out their attack to take out the Broncos in straight sets 25-16, 25-12, 25-10.

Medicine Hat doubled Olds’ number of kills 30-14, with veteran Amber Stigter leading the team with seven spikes on the afternoon.

Janelle Neyron and Shaya Suchy each had 11 digs to lead the Rattlers, while Jennifer Saj was an assist machine with 17 to her name.

Through two matches Medicine Hat has yet to drop a set, sitting tied with the Briercrest Clippers for top spot in the south.

The Rattlers teams head to Calgary on Friday, hoping to keep their undefeated records in check against Ambrose University, before holding their home opener next Saturday versus the Lions.
