Influenza vaccine clinics open next week

MEDICINE HAT, AB — Flu clinics will be getting underway for the season next week across Alberta.

Many of the clinics will be opening up on Monday, however in Medicine Hat and Lethbridge, clinics will start on Tuesday.

In Medicine Hat, the clinics will be taking place in Higdon Hall from 1-6 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday. Other clinics will take place on October 24 from 1-6 p.m., November 3 from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. and November 14th from 2- 6 p.m. People can drop in or call 403-502-8214 to book an appointment.

Flu shots are available free of charge for people aged six months and older. This year, pharmacists can immunize children aged five years and older, after only being allowed to immunize people aged nine years and older.

Children under the age of five need to be immunized at an AHS clinic.

The province has ordered 1.6 million doses of vaccine for the flu season. Last year, approximately 1.3 million doses of influenza vaccine were administered last year.
