Five teenagers injured in collision near Raymond on Thursday

RAYMOND, AB — Five youth are in hospital following a three vehicle collision near Raymond Thursday evening.

The collision occurred at approximately 5:45 p.m. at the intersection of Highway 5 and Highway 52. According to preliminary investigation, a truck travelling north on Highway 5 carrying a trailer collided with a truck travelling west that was entering Highway 52. The collision also involved a south bound car.

The truck that was travelling west had five youth occupants. Global News has revealed the five youth attended Magrath High School and played for the Raymond Comets football team. The players were heading home from practice.

 

According to Global News, two of the players suffered head injuries and were airlifted to Calgary, while another player suffered a broken neck and broken leg, and is also in a Calgary hospital.

Two other players are recovering at hospital in Lethbridge with non life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the truck with the trailer was treated for minor injuries, while the female driver of the car was taken to Lethbridge hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

Westwind School Division is providing counselling and support to students at Magrath High School, Stirling School and Raymond High School.

The game between the Comets and Catholic Central High School scheduled for tonight has been postponed.

RCMP continue to investigate the collision.
