MEDICINE HAT, AB — Three people are in custody following a robbery last week at a restaurant inside a local motel.

Friday morning, two suspects wearing disguises allegedly entered the Spice Hut restaurant, located inside the Medicine Hat Travelodge. The suspects allegedly produced a firearm and demanded cash from a staff member, before fleeing the scene to an awaiting vehicle.

Police conducted the investigation, and arrested one suspect, 35-year-old Michael Mingo, within hours of the robbery. According to police, Mingo was in possession of stolen cash and a pellet gun, which is alleged to have been used in the robbery.

Further investigation led to a pair of search warrants being executed, including one at a home on 11th Street Northeast on Wednesday. Police arrested two more suspects, 30-year-old Jayson Arndt and 35-year-old Kristopher Hansen. Police allege Arndt was the second suspect in the robbery and Hansen allegedly drove the getaway vehicle.

Mingo is facing charges of robbery, wearing a disguise with intent to commit an indictable offence and possession of a weapon dangerous to the public. Mingo also had several outstanding warrants for his arrest on unrelated matters, according to police. He appeared in court on Tuesday.

Arndt has been charged with robbery, wearing a disguise with intent to commit an indictable offence, breach of recognizance and breach of probation.

Hansen has been charged with one count of robbery.

Both Hansen and Arndt are expected to appear in court on October 16th.
