Agent for B.C. Lions quarterback stands up for client after GM’s comments

VANCOUVER — An agent for Jonathon Jennings is shooting back after B.C. general manager Ed Hervey offered a less-than-glowing review of the Lions quarterback’s performance.

In an interview with Postmedia this week, Hervey appeared to question whether Jennings is committed to becoming an elite quarterback.

Jennings’s agent Bardia Ghahremani issued a statement Saturday saying his client is “one of the first to arrive at work every day” and the GM “would know this if (he) weren’t one of the last.”

Ghahremani said Jennings’ routine is to do extra film study at home every night.

The statement was released on the same day the Lions played host to the Toronto Argonauts.

The 26-year-old Jennings has thrown for 1,249 yards, seven touchdowns and seven interceptions in eight games with the Lions (6-7) this season.

He made his sixth start of the year on Saturday.

Hervey said he sees “flashes” of good things from the Columbus, Ohio native, but added that Jennings is “rarely” seen around the team’s training facility enough to show that he has what it takes to take his game to the next level.

The quarterback will be a free agent at the end of the season, his fourth in a Lions uniform. Jennings began the campaign as the team’s starting quarterback, lost the job to Travis Lulay, but regained it when the latter quarterback was injured last month.

B.C. is attempting to secure a spot in the post-season and Ghahremani said that should be everyone’s focus for now.

“In the midst of a playoff push, everyone’s sole commitment should be to getting a W (on Saturday),” he said.
