MEDICINE HAT, AB — Medicine Hat Tigers forward Josh Williams is already receiving attention from NHL scouts early in the season.

On Monday, NHL Central Scouting released its October Players to Watch list, ranking draft eligible players ahead of the 2019 NHL Draft. A total of 110 players from the Canadian Hockey League were ranked on the list.

Williams received an “A” rating, meaning a first-round candidate. He spoke about the news during a media availability on Tuesday.

“It’s always a great feeling being recognized, but those ratings mean nothing if you don’t play up to it,” he said. “I’ve just got to focus on our games coming up. We have a tough stretch, and I’ve got to play my best.”

Williams adds the rating motivates him to play hard each game.

“You just want to stay up there, you never want to drop, so getting that early in the year gives you sort of a benchmark that you’ve got to stay up to it,” he said.

Williams currently has two assists in five games with the Tigers. He returns to action on Wednesday, when the Tigers host Prince Albert at the Canalta Centre at 7 p.m.
