Oct 2, 2018 | 4:42 PM

MEDICINE HAT, AB — Environment Canada has officially placed Medicine Hat and the surrounding area under a snowfall warning.

The warning, issued just after 3:30 p.m., covers Medicine Hat, Cypress County, the County of 40 Mile, Newell County and Special Area No. 2.

According to the release, heavy snow has fallen over the Rockies and the Foothills, with between 20 and 40 centimetres recorded from Monday night until Tuesday. Another 10 to 20 centimetres is expected in several regions, with up to 30 centimetres or more in the Crowsnest Pass region and the more intense snowbands.

Environment Canada says snow is expected to taper off from north to south, ending in the Crowsnest Pass Wednesday morning.

Snow amounts will vary in each region due to the strength of the bands of snow, and the temperature of the surface snow is accumulating on. Snowfall warnings are issued if there is a possibility of 10 centimetre of snow of more falling in a region.

Drivers are reminded to adjust their driving due to changing road conditions.
