CALGARY — Dillon Dube and Juuso Valimaki will start the NHL season with the Calgary Flames.

The club announced on its official Twitter feed Monday that the rookies will be staying with the club for the time being.

A centre chosen 56th overall in the 2016 draft, the 20-year-old Dube turned heads with a hat trick in his pre-season debut with Calgary last month.

The five-foot-11, 183-pound native of Golden, B.C., captained Canada to gold at last winter’s world junior hockey championship.

Dube scored 38 goals and added 46 assists in 53 games with the Kelowna Rockets of the Western Hockey League last season. In 202 career WHL games, Dube had 101 goals and 131 assists.

The 19-year-old Valimaki, a six-foot-two, 204-pound defenceman taken with 16th selection in the 2017 draft, has spent the last three seasons with the Tri-City Americans of the Western Hockey League, picking up 40 goals and 98 assists in 159 games.

In another move announced Monday, the Flames dealt defenceman Brett Kulak to the Montreal Canadiens for minor-league blueliners Rinat Valiev and Matt Taormina.
