MEDICINE HAT, AB – Plenty of goals at Rattlers Field on Saturday, but unfortunately for the Medicine Hat College Rattlers soccer teams it was at the expense of their goalkeepers.

It was a long day on the pitch for both the men’s and women’s teams, dropping 5-1 and 6-0 contests to the visiting SAIT Trojans.

In the men’s game, Trojans forward Joseph Lambele took over the first half against the Rattlers by scoring a hat trick in only 24 minutes to stake SAIT to an early 3-0 lead.

Medicine Hat’s Colton Pacheco was able to get the Rattlers on the board in the 67th minute, but that’s as close as the hosts would come to touching the Trojans’ lead.

In the 82nd minute, Martin Bertolesi booted one past Medicine Hat goalkeeper Devin Simon to make it a 4-1 contest, before Krishneil Prakash put the final nail in the coffin with SAIT’s fifth goal of the afternoon in the 87th minute.

The Trojans peppered Simon with 12 shots on goal, with the Rattlers veteran making seven saves in the loss.

Suffering their third loss of the season, the 3-3-1 Rattlers have slid into fourth place in the ACAC’s South Division through seven games.

Medicine Hat had no answer for SAIT’s offence in the women’s game either, being outshot 18-4 in their 6-0 blowout loss.

Sarah Lepine got the Trojans on the score sheet just 10 minutes into the first half, with Mataya Blakney chipping in with her ninth goal of the season in the 23rd minute.

SAIT further extended their lead to 3-0 with an unassisted marker from defender Skye Gordon two minutes later, eventually taking their three goal lead into halftime.

The Trojans grew their lead to four goals in the 56th minute, as Blakney set up Cheyanne Holland for her first of the game to beat Rattlers goalkeeper Kassidy Suberlak.

Harleen Singh and Holland would add two more goals for the Trojans before stoppage time, earning a 6-0 win over the struggling Rattlers squad.

Suberlak made a number of big saves for Medicine Hat in the loss, still posting 12 saves despite allowing six goals.

Sitting sixth in the South Division with a 1-5-1 record, the Rattlers have been outscored 23-5 over their first seven games of the season.

The Rattlers will look to turn the tide on Sunday, braving the cold and potentially snowy conditions against the Olds College Broncos.

Medicine Hat’s women take to the pitch first at 12:00 pm, while the men will join the action against the Broncos at 2:00 pm.
