Culture Days this weekend

Sep 28, 2018 | 5:06 PM

MEDICINE HAT, AB — The Medicine Hat Public Library is celebrating things that help bring people together over the weekend.

Alberta Culture Days is being celebrated across the province over the weekend, with the Medicine Hat Public Library getting started several days earlier, hosting author talks by Chris Turner and Sharon Butala earlier this week.

“Both of which were well-attended, and (they) were great speakers,” said Gillian Reimer, head of marketing services with the library.

Tonight, the library is partnering with other businesses for the Downtown Art Walk. From 5:30-8:30 p.m. Food Trucks will be parked in front of the library, and the library will be celebrating the fifth anniversary of its Human Library Collection.

The program will allow members to “borrow” people who have information on topics such as hiking, knitting or managing illnesses such as diabetes.

“The library obviously wants to connect with the community, we’re kind of a community hub, and we try and put on events that get people from our community here,” said Reimer. “This is one way that you can meet new community members, and it’s for people who don’t necessarily want to read a book to get the information. You can borrow a person and sometimes get a lot more than you can get from a book.”

Other events for Culture Days

The 19th edition of Pecha Kucha will be taking place at the Veiner Centre on Friday, beginning at 8:20 p.m.
