LAS VEGAS — Thousands of music fans are expected this weekend in downtown Las Vegas for a sixth-year outdoor festival covering some 18 city blocks.

Police promise tight security for the “Life is Beautiful” event, including a close watch at nearby hotel, commercial and residential high-rises, as the anniversary approaches of an Oct. 1 mass shooting at a different concert on the Las Vegas Strip.

Deputy Police Chief Andrew Walsh tells the Las Vegas Review-Journal there will be uniformed and plainclothes officers inside and outside the festival where organizers expect 55,000 ticket-holders Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights.

Police plan aerial surveillance and security bag searches at festival gates.
