NORTH BATTLEFORD, SASK. — RCMP are still searching for a suspect in connection with an abduction of a child that triggered an Amber Alert in the prairie provinces.

During a news conference Wednesday morning, Corporal Rob King with Saskatchewan RCMP says Major Crimes North, North Battleford GIS and Forensic Identification Sections are assisting with the investigation.

The news conference also revealed additional details about the discovery of the girl, who was in a car that was stolen from a strip mall in the town Sunday evening.

At 6:45 a.m., workers in a remote, industrial area within the city limits discovered a vehicle parked in a paved road in some bushes. When North Battleford RCMP officers arrived on the scene with EMS personnel, it was determined the vehicle matched the description of the one in the amber Alert.

The girl was found conscious in the vehicle and was taken to hospital to be reunited with her family and examined by doctors. The girl has been discharged from hospital.

King told reporters at the conference that the vehicle was found approximately two kilometres away from where it was stolen. RCMP say it is not known where else the vehicle may have travelled or how long the vehicle was in the area before it was located.
