MEDICINE HAT, AB — The 3rd Annual Gas City Entertainment Expo took place at the Medicine Hat College on Saturday.

The convention was full of comic fans, people dressed up in cosplay, and seminars ranging from voice acting to prop making.

David Campbell is a member of the Medicine Hat Comic Con Club and Starfleet International who had a booth set up at the event.

They had a number of nerf guns with a shooting range set up, and a photo booth for those wanting pictures.

The goal was to help raise money for the Medicine Hat Food Bank and a local group that helps train service dogs.

Campbell doesn’t know how much money they will raise but for him it’s important to give back to groups that do so much for the community.

He also wants to get in touch with any other groups who are trying to raise money.

“It’s pretty much whoever we can help. If there’s any clubs out there or any groups out there that need help. We would like their information and we would be more than happy to either volunteer with them, or raise money for them, or whatever we can do to help,” said Campbell.

Starfleet International has groups all over the world. Campbell is currently part of the USS King Edward which is based out of Calgary but his crew in Medicine Hat is continuing to grow.

Campbell says they have applied and been accepted to start their own chapter here in the gas city.

He added the group will continue to attend events around the city and are hoping to visit some patients at the hospital soon.

For next the convention next year Campbell is hoping to have something bigger than the shooting range.

“Hopefully we’ll get big enough that we can actually have an arena. So we can have a battle,” said Campbell. “You come in, pay your money, go out and shoot each other. Have a great time.”
